No one will tell you that being a work at home mom is going to be easy. If this was the case, then everyone would do it. There will be times you will feel as though you are being pulled in different directions, and you may be so busy that you cannot remember if you even ate breakfast or not. However being a work at home mom is unbelievably rewarding. You simply need to keep a few essential things in mind, not only when starting your business, but each and every day.
Ask Yourself “Why?”
Why do you want to work at home? Is it to help contribute to bills, or do you simply have a little spare time now that the kids are in school for a full day? Searching deep inside for your true reason will help you stay focused on those days you want to throw in the towel.
Start the Right Business
Your success starts with your business choice. Do you want to do something you are good at, or something you love? In a perfect world, the business you choose will be a little of both. Make sure that it is practical for your family and their schedules too.
Get the Family Onboard
It is common for family members to be less than thrilled about the idea of mom starting a business. A husband may not understand why you want to, if money is not an issue. A child may think you will not have time for him anymore. Explain why you want to do this and give everyone a chance to ask questions and express concerns upfront. This will give you the opportunity to address their concerns, so they feel better about your business adventure, and stand behind you.
Create a Practical Schedule
You may feel like you are a superhero sometimes, and you might even have the remarkable ability to make cuts and bruises feel better. However, if you create a schedule that demands a lot of multitasking and juggling you are setting yourself up for failure. Do not spread yourself too thin. Create a schedule that is achievable while also giving you the time you need to spend with your family.
Take Care of Yourself
A healthy diet is the root to success for a work at home mom. You need nutrient dense food that will fuel your mind and body. Ideally, you will eat several small meals throughout the day. This will keep your energy level up. Do not forget to pencil breaks into your schedule, too. You need time to relax and recharge, even if it is just to go for a 20-minute walk around the block, or dig in the garden for a bit.
